Pint-sized gymnastics powerhouse Gabby Douglas stands out for her strength, grace and show stopping routines, particularly on the uneven bars. She also stands out because of her race. The only black gymnast on this year's U.S. women's team, she is one of only a few black gymnasts to ever represent the U.S. in Olympics competition (click here to see a slideshow of others). Douglas joins swimming phenom Lia Neal, who became the second black American woman to win an Olympic medal in swimming this past weekend, in flourishing in sports not traditionally known for their racial diversity.

Before the eye rolling begins, this is not a column about rampant racism in sports. But it is an attempt to understand why some sports end up predominated by one racial group versus others, and the long-term social and cultural implications of such segregation on the field, court, or gymnastics mat.

FICO Credit Scoring is RACIST

t was bad enough the government pressured banks to rubberstamp home loans for folks with poor credit scores. Now there's a more dangerous push to attack the credit-scoring system itself.
The first shot across the bow was fired last week by the Washington Post. In a front-page story, it warned that "the country is headed toward a kind of financial segregation" from "long-lasting (credit) damage done to the black community."
The Post said civil-rights groups and federal regulators fear blacks will be denied credit for years to come due to subprime foreclosures that have left deep scars on their credit reports.
"Credit scores of black Americans have been systematically damaged, haunting their financial futures," said the Post, quoting the usual anti-bank suspects.
These same Post sources demonized as racist the neutral credit-scoring system banks have used for half a century to measure risk in loans for homes, cars, college tuition and businesses. And they demanded the government review it for fairness, while forcing banks to "repair" the damaged credit of blacks.

Jay Whipple is the founder and director of Queen City Tours and Travel. He says that the No Grease! barber shop's use of the Little Black Sambo is offensive to his generation of African-Americans who grew up during the Civil Rights Era.
"As a kid I was actually called a 'Little Black Sambo' because I was darker than some of my brothers and sisters," said Whipple. "It was a joke but you don't always realize how damaging it is to you as an African American."

#55. Winchester, CT is Racist . Because it is 94.4% White and refuses to let nonresidents (negro & otherwise) muscle in on it's housing benefits.

Winchester, Connecticut is the target of a racism lawsuit brought forth by the Connecticut Fair Housing Center and a single mom of six children. The small town in Connecticut is 94.4 percent white and stands accused of “deliberately” keeping “ethnic minorities out” by denying housing benefits, according to the Daily Mail. Winchester has a total population of 11,000 residents.
The lawsuit filed against town officials claims the Winchester Housing Authority is intentionally trying to avoid an “influx” of ethnic minorities from moving into Winchester. The Winchester Housing Authority uses taxpayer collected funds to operate the federal low-income housing assistance program. The low-income housing lawsuit also maintains that assistance is granted in an illegal manner in the town and 16 surrounding communities the local agency serves, the Courthouse News Service reports.
The Winchester Housing Authority only grants low-income housing assistance to families who are already residents in one of the 17 Connecticut communities the governmental entity serves. The racism lawsuit claims that since the Winchester area towns are all at least 91 percent white the residency requirement “systemically and unlawfully discriminates” against minorities attempting to relocate to the area by making it “unaffordable” for such families to find homes.

Apparently, Mitt Romney speaks in a "coded language" that only "white racists" can understand. This nefarious kind of subliminal "racism" is classified as "dog whistle politics" (LOLWUT!).

The political scatology which is Mitt Romney's willful and racist lie that President Obama wants to end welfare reform, and give free money to all those lazy black and brown human parasites that want to live off of white people, has attracted some flies.
The media spins its wheels, debating the role of racial "dog whistle" politics by Republicans in their hostility and opposition to the country's first black president--as opposed to calling out Mitt Romney for the racist liar that he has proven himself to be.
The central element of dog whistle politics is that the cues are so subtle and coded that only the target audience will pick up on a given speaker's real intent. Ostensibly, these secret codes and signals give a politician plausible deniability, where in Romney's case (and the Republican Party in mass) racism can be denied, and then the assertion flipped in a game of political Aikido that plays on white victimology and spurious claims of "reverse racism."

In theory, those candidates that deploy racial dog whistles can win on both ends of the deal: they get to communicate their onerous message; this same candidate then mines white racial resentment for electoral gain when they are critiqued for their racism.

The views expressed in the white nationalist online community are the racial id of contemporary populist conservatism in the Age of Obama. As such, these spaces are a telling barometer for the backstage and frontstage racism of the New Right and the Tea Party GOP.

If it's not stealing an independent designer's entire collection or spewing around offensive stereotypes, Urban Outfitters is always up to something. The controversial company created yet another "racist" t-shirt after the fact that they [Urban Outfitters] were bombarded with attacks for their first racist shirt that was geared towards our President Barack Obama. This time round, the company created a t-shirt list the "Nutrition Facts" of hip-hop. I guess the last line "Get some chicken," struck a nerve.

Plenty of absurd things are “artsy,” like crafting Jesus on the cross out of elephant feces or giving birth inside an art gallery as a live action installation. But a drawing of Michelle Obama topless on the cover of Spain’s Magazine de Fuera de Serie is plain old tasteless. In my opinion, they have every right to depict her artistically, even in poor taste. But that doesn’t mean they should do it.
Clutch Magazine is calling the image racist because the First Lady is depicted with her hair wrapped in a turban and her breast out like a slave nurse. Given how the title of the article is “Michelle Tataraniea De Esclava, Dueña De América” or “Michelle Granddaughter of a Slave, Lady of America,” I see their point, although as a non-Spanish speaker I first looked at the image and just thought OMG that’s Michelle Obama’s boobs. [Update: It has been brought to my attention the Michelle Obama image is based on the 1800 painting "Portrait d'une negresse" by artist Marie-Guillemine Benoist.]

South African politician says lightening only attacks blacks

A KwaZulu-Natal (region of South Africa) Member of the Executive Council accused lightening of targeting only black people. She said “We will do an investigation and talk to the department of science and technology on what is the cause of the lightning, and if it only happened to the previously disadvantaged as I have never seen any white people being struck by lightning.”
What do you expect from a country who’s president is an admitted rapist and says showers after sex protect you from HIV/AIDS.
