A patient who complained about the treatment she and a frail blind woman received at the hands of a poorly-trained nurse was branded a racist.
Sandra Hynes, 50, had only gone into hospital for a simple operation to relieve her acid reflux, but following complications was left with a punctured right lung.
She had to stay in for an extra two weeks and was put on morphine and oxygen to cope with her pain.

When she was given morphine orally instead, and began hallucinating and crying, a member of staff told her off.
Her patience finally snapped when a nurse fed hot soup to a blind patient in the bed next to her, leaving her blistered and screaming.
Mrs Hynes told the junior nurse – who happened to be black – that she should have tested the temperature of the soup before serving it.
Moments later the nurse’s superior, Staff Nurse Maureen Nwadike – who is also black – arrived in the ward, and told horrified Mrs Hynes: ‘You’re racist.’

The venerable Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! has come under unexpected fire from critics — not just those wielding a pen, but also those in the community who charge the play's production is racist.
What has the irked them is the 5th Avenue Theater's casting of a black actor in the role of antagonist Jud Fry.

Theater critic Alice Kaderlan wrote on seattlepi.com that it was a "serious miscalculation" to cast Kyle Scatliffe in the role of Fry becuase "it's impossible to avoid racial implications in Jud’s explosions of rage and his violent pursuit of the white Laurey."
On the theater's website, choreographer and artistic director Donald Byrd wrote, "there were things I wanted to explore based on the research I had done. The musical takes place at a time when the Oklahoma Territory was being considered for statehood. In 1907, Oklahoma had more all-black communities than the rest of the country being put together."
Byrd also posted that "from 1865 to 1920, African Americans created more than 50 identifiable towns and settlements in Oklahoma, some of which still exist today. There was even a movement to make Oklahoma an all-black state. The new 5th Avenue production has been inspired by and captures some of this history."
Executive producer and artistic director David Armstrong said that the theater didn't expect such a "strong response," but to address people's concerns the theater is holding a panel discussion and Town Hall meeting on the matter.

'It's an insult to African Americans': Planking accused of being racist

Planking, the latest fad where people take photographs of themselves lying face down in public places and post them on the Internet, has been branded as racist.
Bloggers and Twitter users are in uproar over what they claim is the craze’s origins in the slave trade.
But American rapper Xzibit wasn’t amused by the phenomenon.
‘Planking was a way to transport slaves on ships during the slave trade, it’s not funny. Educate yourselves,’ he Tweeted.
‘Don’t get it twisted. I care less where your dumb asses lay face down and take pictures of the ****, I’m just telling you where it came from.’
The fad is said to be based on the lying down game, invented in the UK fourteen years ago. Rechristened planking in Australia this year, it has quickly spread around the world.
It involves aficionados, usually youngsters, laying expressionless with a straight body, hands by their sides and toes pointing to the ground in the most unlikeliest of places.
‘I did a little research and it revealed that slaves were chained and attached to "plank" beds. They were forced to lay face down with their arms by their side and their wrist chained to their waist,’ wrote blogger Courtney Luv.
‘Some were even stacked on top of each other with no room to move. Keep in mind there were not any restrooms and they were exposed to bodily fluids, etc. Not many of the slaves survived, many dying from dehydration and disease.
‘You can't always jump on the bandwagon just because you saw someone else. Everything has a hidden meaning. Cultural sensitivity is real. Yes, it may be fun for now but it is an insult to some.
'Although "planking" wasn't the official terminology used by slave masters it is still seen as an insult to some African Americans,’ she added.

I seriously do not get the point of planking. While it seems sort of spergish, goofy and pointless to me, it isn't waycist.

Even the act of breathing is waycist these days - if you're White.

- Fishing and hunting gear supplier Bass Pro Shops knowingly and systematically discriminated against Hispanic and black applicants in hiring, and some of its managers used racial slurs, a U.S. government agency charged.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Wednesday filed a rare federal lawsuit against Missouri-based Bass Pro Shops in Houston federal court.
The company, which operates a popular chain of monster stores selling all kinds of outdoor equipment, told Reuters on Thursday that the complaints stem from the stereotype that people who like outdoor sports are racist rednecks.
"This investigation and the EEOC's conduct demonstrate a troubling tendency by the EEOC to stereotype those who love outdoor sports and support conservation as people who unlawfully discriminate or oppose equal opportunity for all," Rowland said.
He said that on several occasions, government investigators remarked that Bass Pro Shops' sponsorship of a NASCAR race team indicated "the company is more likely to discriminate against minorities."
According to court documents, one manager of a Houston area store told his human resource manager that "it's getting a little dark in here, you need to hire some white people."
The lawsuit alleges similar conduct at Bass Pro Shop outlets in Alabama, Louisiana, Indiana, and Texas.
The lawsuit says a manager of a Bass Pro Shop in Indiana was seen discarding employment applications, saying the name on one application was a "n------ name," and telling a co-worker that "n-----s steal and don't make good employees."

#6. The Texas Lottery. It's RACIST!

Their argument for this particular puritanical outing, sadly, is unlikely to surprise anyone with even a basic understanding of what George W. Bush called the “soft bigotry of low expectations.”
The Dallas, Texas, chapter of the NAACP has something of a problem – they don’t particularly like the Texas lottery. Why? Because they think it’s a regressive institution that offers a minuscule chance of financial success in exchange for taking gigantic amounts of money from “vulnerable populations” every year. Presumably, they would rather that Texas make up the revenue it gets through the lottery with higher taxes on the rich. KDAF-TV has the details:
It is always a thrill when a Lotto ticket is printed and you dream of what you are going to buy with the millions of dollars. But Juanita Wallace, the president of the NAACP Dallas Chapter, said those who do the most dreaming in Texas were also the most vulnerable.
“It’s the poor people, the uneducated people who spend the most money on the Lottery and it’s not going for [them] the way they thought it was going to go,” said Wallace.
That’s why the NAACP Dallas Chapter voted unanimously to call on state officials to drop the Texas Lotto program.

Congressional Black Caucus spokesperson: Calling Obama cool is racist

As the reality sets in that Barack Obama could lose his re-election bid in November, the desperation among his supporters mounts. Many have begun to replay the race card, which was never that far from the top of the deck. Last Friday it was Daily News ex-sports writer Mike Lupica who warned that an Obama loss would demonstrate that the population is still lousy with “lousy, scummy bigots.”
On Saturday Angela Rye, Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus, picked up where Lupica left off (h/t The Examiner). She appeared on CSPAN’s Q & A, where she told host Brian Lamb:

This is probably the toughest presidential term in my lifetime. I think that a lot of what the president has experienced is because he’s black. You know, whether it’s questioning his intellect or whether or not he’s Ivy League. It’s always either he’s not educated enough or he’s too educated; or he’s too black or he’s not black enough; he’s too Christian or not Christian enough. There are all these things where he has to walk this very fine line to even be successful.
It is true that questions about Obama’s vaunted intellect have been raised but only in the context of (1) repeated gaffes of the sort liberals cited as evidence that George W. Bush was an idiot and (2) his abject failure as president. If there are doubts about details of Obama’s past, it is because he has been largely secretive about his early years, sent partly abroad, and his college days. Consider how long it took him to present his long form birth certificate to quell speculation, no matter how ill-founded, that he not born on U.S. soil.
With slight prodding from Lamb, Rye next got out her dog whistle decoder and offered indisputable proof that the president is a victim of wholesale racism—and that the villains are conservatives. She said:

I think that some of the language that’s used is— I’ll give you an example. There’s an ad, talking about [how] the president is too cool, [asking] is he too cool? And there’s this music that reminds me of, you know, some of the blaxploitation films from the 70s playing in the background, him with his sunglasses. And to me it was just very racially-charged. They weren’t asking if Bush was too cool….
But I just think that even cool, the term cool, could in some ways be deemed racial….
But it’s not just conservatives who have applied this racial epithet to the president. As noted here, in late April late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel stated at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner that Obama is “hard to make fun of because he’s a cool character.” The following Tuesday, left-leaning Washington Post columnist Chris Cillizza appeared as a guest on MSNBC’s Hardball, where he told not reaffirmed not only that Obama is co-o-ol (stretching out the vowel as shown) but suggesting it was a political advantage. In this clip, he tells host Chris Matthews, “This is important, he [Obama] is cool. Mitt Romney is not cool.”

Morgan Freeman: Tea Party Is Racist, They're Out To Get Obama

Morgan Freeman laid down the chips on the Tea Party in a new interview with Piers Morgan that is due to air Friday night.
The Oscar-winning actor sat down with the British TV host and, amongst other things, discussed his belief that the right wing Tea Party's anti-Obama stance is rooted in racism.
When asked by Morgan whether Obama's presidency has made racism in the United States better or worse, Freeman, who once played apartheid-defying South African president Nelson Mandela, frankly stated that his time in office has made it worse, as he has become a target of the right's aggression.
"Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term," the actor said. "What’s, what does that, what underlines that? 'Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.'"
Declaring once again that "it's a racist thing," Freeman said the group's rise has shown the hate still lingering in America.
"Well, it just shows the weak, dark, underside of America," he said. "We’re supposed to be better than that. We really are. That’s, that’s why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president. “Ah, look at what we are. Look at how, this is America.” You know? And then it just sort of started turning because these people surfaced like stirring up muddy water."
The actor continued, saying that he understood President Obama not fighting back, seeking to stick to his principles, but wishes that he'd be more aggressive now.
Freeman endorsed Obama during his run for the presidency, but declined to campaign with him, saying that he was an actor, not a politician. He attended a White House Civil Rights concert in 2010.

Luther Campbell, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Campbell rates the racist credentials of the Republican Party presidential nominees.

What happened to the party of Abraham Lincoln? There was a time when Republicans stood up for African-Americans. But the quartet of leading contenders for the party's presidential nomination have engaged in some pretty disgusting racist behavior that demonstrates the GOP doesn't like black people.
Long before he was the presumed frontrunner for the White House and Massachusetts' governor, Mitt Romney was actively spreading his Mormon faith. At the time, church leaders preached that dark skin was a curse from God. Between 1966 and 1968, Romney was a missionary in France. He believed and taught that God was so displeased with "spirit children" who remained neutral in the war against Lucifer that he turned their skin black.
Then you have Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, who think it is OK to pick on African-Americans on welfare. When Gingrich was recently on MSNBC's Meet the Press, the Republican candidate insulted black people by claiming Barack Obama is "the most successful food stamp president in American history." During a campaign stop in Sioux City days before the Iowa primary, Santorum singled out African-Americans as welfare recipients before a mostly white audience.
"I don't want to make black people's lives better by giving them somebody else's money," Santorum said. It might come as a shock to Newt and Rick, but 39 percent of welfare recipients are white and 17 percent are Hispanic. Stop accepting the stereotype that poor black folks are always looking for a government handout, you mindless wonders.
The fourth candidate, Ron Paul, believes Lincoln should never have gone to war to end slavery. When anchor Tim Russert confronted Paul, the former Texas congressman stuck to his guns. He wants people to believe that the federal government might have avoided the Civil War if it had bought all the slaves from the South and freed them. Paul claims the conflict is the reason "hatred" among blacks and whites "lingered for 100 years," casually ignoring the fact that plantation owners believed they had a constitutional right to own blacks like farm animals. Selling their slaves would not have changed that mentality.
As president, Paul would chain black people in this country and send the people of Latino descent back to the places they came from, whether they were born in the United States or not. If he gets elected, I'm moving my family to the Bahamas.

#13. Criticizing Eric Holder. That shit is totally RACIST!

Al Sharpton: Criticism of Eric Holder is Racist

We suppose it was only a matter of time before this happened.
As most of our readers already know, Al Sharpton is something of a one trick pony, and that one trick is finding high profile media cases that involve African Americans, and trying to polarize them along racial lines. Most of the time this works for Sharpton up until the cases become more fleshed out (as in the Trayvon Martin case), but in some of them his argument blows up in his face the instant he makes it.
This is probably one of those. In an article at the Huffington Post, Sharpton makes the case that the criticism of Attorney General Eric Holder by Republicans is (you guessed it) racist. Read the highlights of Sharpton’s unimaginative attack below (emphasis added):
The highest officer of law and order in this nation has been ridiculed, scapegoated and handled as some sort of criminal throughout this ‘investigation.’ Turning over thousands of documents and overextending himself, AG Holder was spoken to and mistreated as if he were a child, and reminded that despite his esteemed position, he can and would be profiled. AG Holder was in essence ‘stopped & frisked’ without probable cause, and after he cooperated, he was made an example of. What Issa just showed us is that no matter what our stature in this world, someone can easily try to ‘put us in our place.’ What could be more outrageous?[...]
As I marched this past Sunday with tens of thousands in New York in opposition to the abhorrent practice of stop & frisk,‘ I couldn’t help but think of our attorney general. Tattered down and publicly humiliated, AG Holder has been mishandled just like the young Black and Latino men (and women) who are demonized on our streets everyday. Chris Matthews of Hardball on MSNBC concurred: AG Holder is being profiled, stopped and searched. Where was Issa‘s government reform when the ATF gun program began in ’06 under the Bush Administration and was called Operation Wide Receiver? Or when it was the Hernandez case in ‘07? Or the Mendrano case in ‘08? Why hasn’t anyone from the previous administration been held accountable? Why is it only this AG a few months before election time? The answer is glaringly obvious.

Eurovision Song Contest is racist, claims Andrew Lloyd Webber

Andrew Lloyd Webber has blamed the UK's poor record at the Eurovision Song Contest on racism.

Asked what he thought about Britain's record, Lloyd Webber told the Radio Times: ''I don't think there's any point beating around the bush.
''I'll put it to you by asking you a question. 'Did you see the Eurovision Song Contest this year? (when Engelbert Humperdinck narrowly avoided coming last).
''If you had seen it, you might have noticed one thing - I don't think there was one black face on the programme.''
He said: ''At the press conference in Moscow (in 2009), I was asked, 'Why have you brought a black artist?'
''I said, 'Because she is the most talented artist that we had and I think she's a major, major star.' I think we would have come second but there's a problem when you go further east...''
Asked whether he was saying that racism was the reason that Britain did not win, he said: ''Well, it doesn't mean that we would necessarily have won that year but we could have come second.
''If you're talking about Western Europe - Germany, fine; France, fine; Spain, fine; Greece, fine; Scandinavian countries, fine. But Ukraine? Not so good.''
The impresario, who previously worked on BBC shows like How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, also admitted in the interview that he was not a fan of BBC1 show The Voice.
''I don't know what the problem was there. Everyone was out of tune all the time. I just couldn't watch it,'' he said.

#15. Prostate CANCER is RACIST!!!!

LONDON, England - Scientists in Britain have found that black men are three times more likely to get prostate cancer than white men. The announcement has been met with widespread condemnation and disgust from the media. "We have long known that cancer kills thousands of people every year, ripping countless families apart," says James Liberaman of The Guardian. "But it had never occurred to us that these killings could be racially motivated. Cancer must be stopped."
It has yet to be ascertained how far the right-wing attitudes of the disease currently stretches, although it is not yet believed to have any links with far-right organisations, such as the British National Party. Luckily, the doctors diagnosed the racism in its early stages. Further investigations are to be carried out into its feelings towards Asians, Jews, and Eastern Europeans. There are also fears that it won't care for gays much either.
Some observers have questioned why this news has not been brought out into the open earlier. Numerous cancer charities have denied any sort of cover-up in response to allegations aimed at their "horribly white and middle class" charity shops. A government inquiry is being called for to investigate the issue. However, this would doubtless be presided over by a stuffy, white, upper class, hereditary peer.
Other observers, such as Germaine Wolfe from The Observer newspaper, have waded in to the discussion, adding a feminine perspective. "It is a true indictment of our oppressive patriarchal society that all this fuss is being brought up over a man's illness. What about breast cancer? Ovarian cancer? Cervical cancer? Cancer is sexist and everyone wants to sweep that fact under the carpet and ignore it."
The cancer race row looks likely to run and run. City lawyers have been working day and night, with so many new possibilities in terms of lawsuits. Cancer is likely to be sued by various parties for discrimination, loss of earnings and wrongful dismissal. The British Medical Association also fears that it will be blamed on the legal basis of "not being black enough."
Attempts are being made to address the situation. Cancer is being put into a programme intended to increase its awareness of the struggles facing the black people. It will also be taught about the horrors of the slave trade and be forced to read the collected works of Maya Angelou. In the meantime, Cancer will be replaced in horoscopes by bird flu. It will also be barred from children's television, football matches and the forthcoming MOBO awards.

#16. The "Birther" Investigation. It, and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, are RACIST!

This controversy is never going to be settled among people who just can't stand the fact a person of color who doesn't subscribe to their beliefs occupies the White House. It's absolutely shameful and reflects racism plain and simple.

Even though Arpaio claims the investigation isn't costing taxpayers money, why can't these people get it through their heads that bringing up this issue over and over is like beating a dead horse, especially since the president released his long-form birth certificate in April?

I can't point the finger at police officers who racially abuse and assault black and Asian citizens. In the last fortnight 10 complaints have been brought against the Metropolitan Police by different black men who allegedly suffered racist insults and violence after arrest. One of them, Mauro Demetrio, recorded the experience on his phone. A fresh inquiry has been launched into the case of 53-year-old bus driver Kester David, found burnt to death two years ago in Enfield. The police treated it as suicide, though the coroner recorded an open verdict. His family strongly believe the Met didn't investigate with due care because David was black. Mr and Mrs Lawrence faced that stonewalling when their boy Stephen was killed. The IPCC remains, as ever, utterly hopeless.
Now Police Chiefs and Top Tories have got on their high horses and promise to rid the land of prejudiced coppers. Bernard Hogan-Howe, Commissioner of the Met, has declared he is their "implacable enemy" and will drive them out. Even London's Mayor, Boris Johnson (read further to find out why "even"), wants an official probe into the Lawrence case to check out if some officers behaved improperly.

Why place all the blame on policemen? This is displacement, a way of avoiding collective responsibility. Bob Morgan of Thatcham, Berkshire sent a pithy letter to this paper stating facts too long denied. Racist police officers, he wrote, only reflect our society, "where even discussing racism is so uncomfortable it is rarely done". I thank Mr Morgan for his acuity and candour. Such talk has vanished (been banished actually) from the public space. Britain has decided racism is over or an unsightly scratch on its radiant self-image or a profitable lie used by citizens of colour or, worst of all, perfectly OK and even understandable.
Disagree with any of the above and you get slapped by the right (metaphorically) and bullied by an army of malevolent internet "nationalists", or are quietly categorised as trouble and dealt with accordingly. I now try hard not to bring up British racism because what follows is scary. I was recently told by a successful independent TV producer that the time was right for people like "that Sikh in a kilt. Funny, no chip on his shoulder, who doesn't make whites feel guilty, not full of PC shit". Now you know why so few young black and Asian highflyers mention the R word.
