Chicago Public Schools says a teacher showed poor judgment posting photos of a student on her Facebook page, leading to the child being mocked for her hairstyle on picture day. The 7-year-old, a student at Overton Elementary School, turned up for photo day last week with Jolly Rancher candies tied at the end of her braids. Her computer teacher allegedly took photos of the child and posted them on her site where people mocked the hairstyle. The child’s mom complained to the principal, said CPS spokeswoman Monique Bond. “The principal said this was a good teacher but this was a case of poor judgment,” Bond said. Lucinda Williams says her daughter saw a picture of a girl wearing Jolly Rancher candies at the end of her braids in a hair salon magazine and begged her mom to give her the hairstyle. Her mother agreed but said she'd do it on picture day, March 24. That day Williams, a hairdresser, attached the candies to the braids using elastic bands. Most of her daughter's teachers complimented her hair at school, so she didn't think much of a teacher's request to take pictures of the hairdo, Williams said. The teacher asked the girl to put her hair over her face and then used her cell phone camera to take a side shot and then one of the back of her head. Williams said the teacher told the child, "my husband is not going to believe this." That night, another parent whose child is the teacher's friend on Facebook let Williams know that the girl's photo was on the teacher's page and people were mocking the hairstyle. The other parent saved both the photos and the comments onto a CD. Williams notified the school principal the next day. The teacher apologized and said she took down the photos, but Williams says it's not enough. Her lawyer is preparing a lawsuit against CPS. "What bothers me is that she still hasn't apologized to my baby," Williams said. "No child should have to go to school to be bullied by their teacher." CPS says it’s now investigating to see if any school policies were violated, but that the case “will warrant disciplinary action.” more-- http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...ng-pupil-on-facebook-20110331,0,3686376.story
