http://racialreality.110mb.com/italians.html It is often claimed that Italians, especially those from the South of the country, have substantial Middle Eastern and African admixture acquired during Roman times and the Moorish occupation. However, data from anthropology shows a prehistoric origin for the Mediterranean elements in Italy, and detects no Negroid influence there whatsoever. Genetic research confirms this, showing that both sub-Saharan and Arab-Berber admixture are negligible. The differences between Northern and Southern Italians have also been greatly exaggerated for political reasons.
The one drop rule is not open for debate. If the basis for your argument is "a little bit doesn't hurt!" then you're not white.
When was racial reality last updated? The genetic studies I've seen show Southern Italians in general have a good amount of Middle Eastern and North African ancestry, at least compared to their northern cousins.

Southern Italy's original denizens were indigenous Italics and later the Greek and Carthaginian colonists (all three of the Med caucasian type), with a likely Celtic and Germanic influx (Alpinid and Nordic caucasian type). All of these groups were whiteboys of one type or another. The area got pretty heavily niggerized, sandniggerized, etc. eventually at the end of the classical period with the wars of Justinian, rise of Islam, etc.
