This genre is basically a modern take on 80's inspired electronic soundtracks.... think of some of the seminal electronic theme tunes from the era for example Tangerine Dream's "Street Hawk", Miami Vice Soundtrack, some of Georgio Moroder & Harold Faltermeyer's work etc.

It's a subculture for bedroom producers & remixers, no superstars here but nevertheless, some surprisingly decent results.

Here's a compilation of some tracks.

    01. Tokyo Denmark Sweden -- When It breaks (Jordan F Remix) 0:00
    02. Let Em Riot -- Don't Stop Running 3:30
    03. Trésors -- Pleine Lune (Anoraak Remix) 6:56
    04. Lifelike -- Discomachine 10:55
    05. Silent Gloves -- Solaris 13:40
    06. Futurecop! Feat. Kristine -- Superheroes 18:24
    07. Dana Jean Phoenix & Sunglasses Kid -- Summer Breakup 21:25
    08. Arcade High - On the Edge of the Summer (Jordan F Remix) 24:53
    09. Meiko -- Leave the Lights On (Silent Gloves Remix) 28:40
    10. The Presets -- Promises (Lifelike Remix) 32:48
    11. Groove Armada feat. Will Young -- History (Grum Remix) 38:00

I was a drunken, doped up loser all through the 80s and don't remember much. However, I will listen and get up to speed. Tangerine Dream did some really good stuff in a few movie scores whose titles escape me for some reason.

Mr Whitey: That Jupiter 8 is still regarded as a classic and fetches insane prices on the s/h market.

On a poor man's budget one can still pick up an Oberheim Matrix 1000 DCO module and pimp it with an improved ROM chip (which fixes a few annoying bugs of the original) and you can get that awesome Oberheim sound. (Think of Van Halen, early Prince and un-countable 80's Nigger Pop productions.)

A couple of Silent Gloves outrun style remixes, sound better than the originals imo.

Kimbra, Mark Foster, A-trak - Warrior

Meiko - Leave the lights on

It's funny how the market works. That Korg Polysix mentioned in the article doesn't sound particularly great, guess it must have been feature hype that got da punters buying them in droves.
The internal batteries on those also inevitably let go and soak the circuit board in a corrosive chemical mess causing hassles and necessitating expensive repairs.
