I am not religious and have grown up in an atheist society, but I certainly felt something when entering an Orthodox church, even without any service going on. It does make you feel humbled and you do feel spiritual presence in there. It's a combination of factors, that the old church found had been effective, but all of them work in concert to make people believe. On the other hand, that feeling was completely missing in any protestant, and even Catholic church. Abandoning rituals and trying to appeal to the mind has the natural outcome of people becoming atheist, eventually, since religion doesn't make logical sense. Besides, what Christian churches haven't fallen victim to political correctness and still consider fags deserving hell? That alone trumps any other church; I would have never joined any shit religion that considers fags normal.
