Hypnotist Gets Girls Stuck In Trance.

    Some students at a private all girls school in Quebec, Canada, may have mixed emotions about mass hypnosis after a campus demonstration went wrong and locked them in a trance -- some for hours.

    Maxime Nadeau was hired to perform a hypnotism show for a small group of 12- and 13-year-old girls at an end-of-school year event at the Collège du Sacré-Coeur. However, when the young hypnotists prepared to end the event, several girls in the audience remained mesmerized, CBC News Canada reported. (Oh Noses!)
    According to CBC, when Nadeau wasn't able to snap the student's out of their trance, he called his mentor and trainer Richard Whitbread to reverse the effects in an emergency intervention.

    "Being in a trance is a state of well-being," Nadeau said. "I wasn't stressed. I knew they would get out of it."
    One student was reportedly left hypnotized for up to five hours as Nadeau waited for Whitbread to arrive at the school.

    "There were a couple of students who had their heads lying on the table and there were (others) who, you could tell, were in trance," Whitbread said. "The eyes were open and there was nobody home."
    Whitbread told CBC that he had to re-hypnotize the girls in order to help them, and brought them out of their state using a stern voice.

    When asked about the experience, one of the students described her trance as being "cool," and that she would do it again despite the now-familiar potential consequences.

    I'm going to have to call bullshit (or at the least - gratuitous, sensationalist exaggeration) on this. I'm no expert on hypnosis, but no one can be hypnotized or put in a "deep trance" against their will.
