The instrumental 'Death Warmed Up' by these guys is pretty intense. http://www.myspace.com/music/player?sid=33948300&ac=now
The Norman Haines Band - Den of Iniquity
The Gentrys - South Bound Train
I just fixed the links in the first couple of pages of this thread so they would embed. For whatever reason, when we did the migration to XF, those ones didn't work properly with the new embed code.
Here's a couple more I'm currently listening to-
Björn Famne - Vampire
Santa Barbara Machine Head - Rubber Monkey (love the Hammond)
edit/add - here's one more from the Norman Haines band - drool, I want this album
Norman Haines Band - Rabbits
That's the late, great Jon Lord on the Hammond, and Ronnie Wood on guitar.
Wot the 'ell.........why not a few more, seeing as I'm still boxing up discs and tapes.
Btw - anyone who especially dotes on a 60s/early 70s psych/prog/doom sound at the very least needs to check out the discography of the amazing one-man psych revival, Nick Saloman, who records as The Bevis Frond. There's always been lots of retro artists about, but not many who commit themselves as completely to the vibe, tone and temperament of that long gone era. His musical instincts and craftsmanship are extraordinary.
I have an issue of Ptolemaic Terrascope which compares Guided By Voices favorably with The Bevis Frond.
Obviously heavily influenced by the Byrds.
Anno Domini - Hitchcock Railway
