Jews originated in the Levant, and most modern day Jews are descended from them. The religion itself doesn't make them more genetically similar to each other, the fact that they have a common geographic origin and have not actively proselytized outside of their group makes them more genetically similar to each other.

So what you are saying is that Jews are of a common lineage that goes back at least to the birth of Judaism, and that they share too a common culture of equal antiquity. In other words, Jews are an 'ethnic group', which you would deny. The mind boggles at what passes for logic in your mind.

That term, ethnic group, however, was popularised by social anthropologists. The proper English word to use is race, which in its Indoeuropean root and its traditional usage means nothing other than bloodline. Hence we have talk in English literature of an Antonine race, an English race, a Germanic race, an Aryan race, a white race, or indeed a human race.


I might add that there is no manner of experiencing a religion as distinct and separate from a culture, or indeed the other way around, regardless of how the intellectually bankrupt conceptual schemes of the modern mind would have it. Anything else is mere Americanism, which is the absence of any culture whatsoever.

Not all Jews are of "a lineage that go back to the birth of Judaism". One cannot convert to an ethnic group, one can convert to Judaism, ergo Judaism is not an ethnic group.

Such a usage of the word "race", while acceptable, is antiquated. Today, the word race usually denotes continental races, or subspecies, of humanity.
