Last night's Season 5 debut of AMC's Breaking Bad was the most watched episode in the history of the series. From 10PM to 11PM ET, the network earned a 2.2 HH rating delivering 2.9 million viewers. This marks an increase of +22%/ +14% respectively. Even more impressive is the exceptional growth among the coveted 18-49 demo, which saw a +34% increase versus last season's premiere. Among the Adults 25-54 demo, Breaking Bad delivered 1.8 million marking an increase of +28%. For the night, Breaking Bad's Season 5 premiere attracted 3.5 million viewers with the 10PM ET premiere and the 11:30PM ET encore. In August, AMC announced the final 16 episodes to conclude the series.

"From day one, Breaking Bad has been a passion project for all of us at AMC. This show has helped define what our brand stands for in terms of supporting quality storytelling and creative risk-taking. Working with these terrifically creative people on such outstanding material has been a joy-filled ride. I'm so pleased to share this success with the entire Breaking Bad team," said Charlie Collier, AMC's president. "We look forward to sharing the final 16 episodes with Breaking Bad's passionate fans. As our marketing campaign says, 'All hail 'The King.'"AMC is carried on every cable, satellite and TelCo provider except the Dish network.

Over the past five seasons, Breaking Bad has been heralded as one of the best TV dramas on television. USA Today said, "As hard and sharp and brilliant as a diamond, and in the TV landscape, just as valuable. And, with only 16 episodes left, almost as rare." The New York Post said, "the best antihero on television. Not just today, but ever." People Magazine called it, ""the best TV drama ever... Bad has taken the complexity of modern television storytelling to new levels." The Toronto Star states, "the beginning of the end for the best show on television.

It's about a High School Chemistry teacher who has cancer and is supposed to die,who starts making Speed with a student flunky and then gets involved in the Mexican drug cartel. It's pretty good.Lot of blood and guts and seems pretty realistic.I'm just believing it really can't last; as they always seems to end up the same old way.Like The Sopranos,Deadwood and a half dozen other good series on AMC and HBO;they all start out good and violent;but they generally fizzle out after a season or two,as the writers producers and directors all change(because they want more money) and the stories all start to get way to dramatic, intricate and warm & fuzzy. You can always tell when the writers change as the characters begin to develop "social" consciences, minorities suddenly appear for no good reason, and the whole thing becomes one big pile of BS, unrelated to what the original actually was.I guess it's like sex and drugs,it's never as good again- the second time.

Nice, I'll have to check it out. I started watching Walking Dead and by the 2nd season, gave up. Way too much romance and drama, not enough Zombie killing and insanity.

rust: 2,230 Points (IMO, Walking Dead was just that - dead. They failed to develop the plot and it got rather yawnworthy as a result quickly.) Jul 17, 2012

This is the last season of BB. So if it changes much they only have 15 episodes left to do it in.

Breaking Bad rules. I watch very little network television these days, but this series is exceptional. A shame this will be the last season.

Me and the wife started watching Breaking Bad today. We watched the first 2 episodes. So far, fairly entertaining.

@Apocales - what was that site you mentioned to me that has all TV series episodes available shortly after they air? Do you see this Breaking Bad season premiere on it yet and also what about all the previous seasons?

When a friend first mentioned this show to me, the premise did not sound that interesting to me, but I quickly got hooked.

Another series I enjoy quite a lot is Sons of Anarchy - another one that based on the premise/plot, just did not sound like something I would find worthwhile at all.

That's the same link I use. I find you have to pick the PutShare, SockShare hosts for best results. Quick buffering.

Yet to see it, but then I never got around to The Wire until the final season (it ended around the time I got up to season 4) and I've yet to see The Sopranos beyond a five minute clip. Maybe I'll save a Breaking Bad marathon for around Christmas.

I'm still missing The Shield. Damn that was a good show. Boardwalk Empire is pretty decent if you have cable.

Mike needs his own spin off. Mike is a Good White Man.

The scene when the DEA was grilling him was one of the best.
