Let me get this straight. A woman runs in a national preserve (known for bears) gets attacked and now they're going to euthanize a mamma bear, who's going to take care of the cubs?
I'm starting to side with the animals b/c of human stupidity. The proper way to treat rabies is with the 3 series vaccinations, if she's already had the 3 series, she'll just need 1 vaccination shot. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/739023_10 :frown:
Marathon runner injured in bear attack

Woman attacked in Valles Calderas National Preserve

JEMEZ, N.M. —A bear attacked a woman running in a marathon Saturday afternoon in the Valles Calderas National Preserve near Los Alamos, officials said.

The victim apparently surprised a mother bear, whose cub ran up a nearby tree, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish officials said.
The woman’s upper body, head and neck were bitten and scratched several times, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening. Her condition was not released.
Nearby runners helped the victim until an emergency crew arrived. The victim was airlifted to an Albuquerque area hospital.
Once the bear has been found, it will be euthanized and tested for rabies, officials said. Although rabies in bears is rare, it is nearly 100 percent fatal in humans if not properly treated.

Black bear opens car door, terrifies family driving through Yellowstone

A family driving through the national spotted a black bear near the side of the road and stopped the car to take pictures.
In the video, the animal is seen walking up to the side of the parked vehicle, and a young voice can be heard saying, “Dad, the bear’s right next to us.” The bear peers at the man inside the car—and then proceeds to open the unlocked car door.
Frantic screams can be heard as the bear manages to open the door of the minivan. The father drops his camera and slams the door shut as the family drives away.
Lesson learned. When driving through national parks, keep your car door locked at all times.
