Side story: my dad says when that movie first came out, every White boy in the whole town was running around carving Zs in things -- it excited all the young boys imaginations, in South Carolina. What's with Spaniards these days? They used to be cool. Even Santa Ana made a good bad guy, back in his day. Are they all wimps now???

I remember the fellow next door making wooden swords (two matched sets) and shields so his son and I could pretend to be 'knights' and play that age old game ... 'fight' -- I think he was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy. Guess he knew the score -- boys need to practice as much as they can.

Good for me, good for his son. When lots of us played together, it was an even more fun game. We called it 'war.' (ok - we weren't very inventive with the names....) I don't think my mom has *ever* forgiven me for using her best pot lid as a 'shield' in one of our games.... I came home, healthy and without cuts or bruises (unlike when I rode my bike down the hill too fast....), but with it all dented up....

It was lots of fun, even though it hurt from time to time. What's with boys these days anyway? Anyway, good times.... Maybe these 'Hispanics' need to learn a thing or two from the White boys....
